Pacchai Milagai Thokku Green Chilli Thokku

Suddenly my son grew fond of spicy food and wanted to eat green chilly a lot. This recipe is handed down from generations - my mother-in-law was an expert and everyone loved the terribly spicy, sweet, sour chatni with the heavenly flavor of green chillies.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams green chilly
  • 3 to 4 tb. sp Urad dal
  • 1 lemon sized tamarind soaked
  • Some gur (jaggery) as per taste
  • Hing ( asafotida)
  • salt
  • 2 tb sp.Til oil

Method:

  • Roast  the urad dal and hing with little oil till golden brown and a nice flavor comes.
  • Grind to a coarse powder
  • Roast green chillies in little oil till a nice flavor comes. Should not brown.
  • Add chillies, tamarind, gur , salt to ground dal and grind to a fine paste.
  • Heat til oil and add the above chatni and toss till the oil blends with the chatni.
  • Can be stored for a week or so in fridge
